
What it’s Gerund ? Gerund is a -ing form of the verb for some reason gerund is also known asa separate verb.
A. Utilization
1. Verb as subject Example:
~ studying is an inportant key to success.
~ speaking is functional English that need to comprehend well
2. A verb as a complementary object Example:
~ I love swimming.
~ Her hobby is reading.
3. The verb after preposition Example:
~ I am so sorry for being so silly.
~ After leaving, he never comes back.
4. The verb after the special term Example:
~ to be used to ( i am used to facing such hard problems )
~ to be worth ( it is worth considering bad effects of your habit )
~ to be busy ( do not bother your sister, she is busy preparing her final examination )
~ no use ( it is no use being smart without good manner )
~ can’t help ( i can’t help ignoring her this whole day )
~ to be accustomed to ( George is accustomed to wearing suits during his work )
5. Get used to Example:
~ i miss Mr. Cohen’s teaching which is amazing
~ don’t ignore our trying to be successful
6. Verbs after specific verbs
Infinite after certain verbs.
Example:
~ would you mind moving your chair?
~ She ginallu quuts working.
~ Before you finish painting, make sure it is well-designed
There is a group of verbs that can be followed either gerund or to infinitive. However, when the verb is followed by to infinitive or gerund, it will have different meanings: stop, forget remember, and regret. Example:
~ Bryan stops smoking
~ Bryan stops to smoke
